Frenectomy

This consists of the complete removal of the lingual (lower) or labial (upper) frenulum. A frenectomy prevents and corrects certain problems

When the lingual frenulum is too short it can produce ankyloglossia, which can restrict tongue movement, making swallowing more difficult and causing phonetic problems.
